THE LOMBARDI GOSPEL – Homily for the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

I think there’s a lot we can learn from people like Vince Lombardi. If I were to issue a call┬áto indolence, I would be preaching a doctrine as foolish as the false gospel I’m trying to discount. Our choices matter, and we must strive to love God with all our strength–this much is certain. But what is also certain that on our own, nothing we do has the capacity to bring about the goodness we desire. Only God can do that–and only God HAS done that. What brings fruition from our efforts is the grace and mercy of Christ; let our efforts be wholehearted, and may Christ come to meet us in our aspirations!
